Frequently Asked Questions

To protect against malicious attacks and inappropriate submissions, Critter Lookout verifies the e-mail address for free listing (Critter and Service) by sending a confirmation e-mail to the provided e-mail address. Check your mail application's junk and deleted folders for the Critter Lookout e-mail and confirm your e-mail address. If the e-mail doesn't arrive, you can request it to be resent through the Lost Registration option under the main menu's Critter Postings or Critter Services.

• Free Critter Postings/Services - upon confirmation of your listing (i.e. clicking the Confirm button in the first e-mail sent), you will receive a second e-mail notifying you of your posting's activation on the site. That e-mail contains a Quick Links section at the bottom with direct links for posting editing and management.
• Members - for Critter Posting editing, log into your account dashboard and select the Postings tab to view your postings. Click on the Edit link next to your posting. Currently, Critter Service listings are not displayed/managed in the account dashboard.

The Reference ID is included in the activation notification e-mail for both Critter and Service listings. You can request this information to be resent in an e-mail for the appropriate listing type.

Critter Postings and Critter Services listings can be deactivated at any time. Activation notification e-mails contain direct links for deactivating the listing, but there are also Deactivate buttons under each area's main page.

The intent is to generalize selections where possible and appropriate to provide more coverage for matching. For example, the owner of a pet, say an American Bulldog, knows the specific breed details for a lost pet posting. However, the intent is to accommodate the worse case scenario; someone who isn't familiar with breed variations only needs to identify the critter as a Bulldog (General) for their corresponding found pet posting. The match will still be made by Critter Lookout's automatic identification and notification e-mail. Similarly when searching, generalizing with a general breed selection like Bulldog (General) will match on all Bulldog variations.
